Sherman Oaks
Sherman Oaks is a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, California. It is bordered by Studio City on the north, North Hollywood on the east and south, and Beverly Hills and West Hollywood on the west.
The area was first settled in the 1920s when movie stars began building large homes in this newly developing community. As a result, Sherman Oaks has a rich and diverse history, with many examples of famous mansions still standing.
Due to a large number of movies and television shows being produced in the San Fernando Valley, Sherman Oaks has been home to numerous celebrities, including Tom Hanks, Barbra Streisand, Dustin Hoffman, Bette Midler, Mae West, George Burns, The Osmonds, Ronald and Nancy Reagan, Groucho Marx, Elvis Presley, Mark Hamill and the late president of the United States of America – Ronald Reagan.
Sherman Oaks is a very popular living area for families. It has been affectionately dubbed “Snob Hollow” by local residents who enjoy their quiet neighborhood filled with large, single-family homes.
In 2020, the population was about 69,214 and had a median household income of $74,768.00 and a 2020 Median house value with a Mortgage of $820,400.00. The average number of people per household is 2.8/5% are homosexual couples. The community is diverse in terms of race, with 58.5% Caucasian/European-American, 17.6% Asian, 6.5% African American, 4.4% Hispanic or Latino, 5.2% other races, and 4.8% two or more races.
Landmarks in this area include the large Los Angeles Public Library, which is visited by over 2 million visitors each year (of which more than one-quarter are children who come to use the extensive children’s library collection).
The neighborhood is very family-friendly and has many amenities for its citizens. It also provides many opportunities for its residents to give back through involvement in local community groups.
The area is served by many public schools, including highly regarded Van Nuys High School (VNHS); there are several private schools in the surrounding areas of Los Angeles, some with very famous alumni.
Real estate in this area is primarily made up of single-family homes, but there are also small apartment buildings and condos. It is known for its many lush trees and greenery.
